I am writing this on behalf of my mother and her new company. Less than a year ago, my mom decided to make a HUGE career decision. On her own, but with over 10 years of previous experience working for another company, she decided to open her own group travel company. Recently she was able to move her office out of her home to a “real” physical office building. She tries very hard to get her name out there, but she is in need for some help in that area. My mom works alone; doing tedious office tasks from dusk until dawn, and then has to travel with her groups often. Her office is located in West Virginia, which makes it even harder to advertise, then to say New York or Miami where there are a lot more people. Currently for marketing, my mom has reached out to previous clients that she has worked with. She uses the good ole “word of mouth” technique, which kind of pays off because she is so good at what she does. Other than that, she has made some phone calls and trips looking for new clients. She has also paid someone to make her a website. I feel that this company has everything it needs to be very successful except for help in marketing.

I have hired this cleaning company to clean my parents and my in-laws homes because they are elderly now and so it’s just easier to have a cleaning service come in. They use all biodegradable and non-toxic cleaning supplies. They are extremely pleasant, cheerful, and just kind to my parents. The cleaning jobs they do for the elderly are very thoughtful and charitable in that the company works with them to be able to afford the service on their fixed incomes. Most elderly people are forced to live on a budget because of a fixed income and The Greener Cleaner always makes their service affordable for their elderly customers no matter what the circumstances. I recommend this company to all of my friends and I’m also trying to assist them in getting contracts with some of the Retirement Communities that are popping up. I mean its the least I could do for how helpful and accomodating they have been to me and all of my parents.

I must confess I have been using some of my personal stories as the backdrop for some of my posts latley.

In a recent post, I talked about a guy that was running a group home and died. It put the house in real dissary and in pretty short order the house is falling apart. My brother-in-law lives in that house.

As things started to unravel, the family decided to do soemthing pretty radical and open up our own group home. This sounds like quite an undertaking but we do have some of the required skill sets, one of Kim’s sisters, Kris has a license to run an assited living facility, Karen was formerly in real estate, Kris’s husband Scott, Kim and I are generalists. Once you get through the family BS, we were able to move pretty fast. Karen found a house and we put a bid in on it. I set up a corporation and got the loan paperwork going. Scott is working on the business model and trying to find a few small investors and Kim and Kris are trying to figure out which of residents of the current facility will move into our new facility.

This is a labor of love because everyone involved has the interests of the residents in mind. They have lived together for over 15 years and are family. They thrive on a daily routine and we are trying to hold it together for them. I will be letting know how all this works out in the next few weeks. Our immediate goal is to keep these people safe and happy but who knows, it may turn into the next big small business adventure and I will need marketing help to get more residents.
